Department of Medical Laboratories

About the Department

It is considered one of the first specializations that were opened since the establishment of the college, and the medical laboratory specialization is one of the important medical fields that students compete to enroll in at various universities both locally and globally. Due to the rapid advancements in medical sciences and the tremendous development in biotechnology and other advanced therapeutic techniques, there is an increasing demand for graduates of this specialization in the job market. Consequently, universities have aimed to keep pace with this significant development by enhancing their curricula and introducing new programs and courses that serve this qualitative shift in medical fields.

The Department of Medical Laboratories at the College of Medical Technology was established in the year "2004/2005" to be a leading educational and research beacon in the field of medical analysis. Since its inception, the department has undergone several developmental phases, including updating the curricula and equipping the laboratories with the latest technologies, which contributes to graduating generations of qualified competencies.

curriculum

The duration of study at the college is a yearly system (four years and six months) as follows: the first year is general, and the remaining three years are specialized. After successfully completing all courses of the fourth year, the student spends six months dedicated solely to the graduation project and field training (internship). An additional two academic years may be added as a maximum for the student's graduation. The College of Medical Technology grants its graduates a degree in medical technology (Bachelor's degree), and the college council may propose the establishment of higher academic degrees, such as a higher degree (Master's) or a precise degree (Doctorate) in various specialties after approval by the university council when resources are available. The study stages in the department combine theoretical and practical study, where the student studies a set of general and specialized subjects in addition to practical study, where students conduct a series of experiments within the department's laboratories.
