About the Department
Public health is the science and art of creating healthy communities through education, research, and the promotion of healthy lifestyles. It focuses on health promotion and the prevention of diseases and injuries, in contrast to the medical model of care, which is more focused on diagnosing and treating diseases and conditions after they occur. If you want to know information about the field of public health and its areas, students studying public health take scientific courses that qualify them to work as public health professionals, enabling them to analyze and develop programs that protect the health of individuals, families, and communities, as well as prepare for and respond to emergencies. Graduates of this program earn a bachelor's degree in public health.
The Department of Public Health is one of the departments that work on training personnel in the field of preventive medicine, which is the modern approach for most countries around the world. The perspective and guidelines of the World Health Organization over the past ten years have focused on preventive medicine in its various branches, including epidemic control, occupational health, international health, travelers' health, environmental health, maternal and child health, reproductive health, and other activities that rely on the concept of Health Promotion and disease prevention rather than resorting to treatment and medication, which leads to the loss of human and material resources and disrupts the community's progress by hindering its individuals. In fact, the abundance of hospitals, the increase in the number of beds, and the high rate of illness and clinical admissions are considered indicators of health backwardness and a clear sign of the lack of preventive programs and the absence of primary healthcare services, which are the result of preventive medicine and defensive health.
The Public Health Department at the College of Medical Technology was established in the year "2006/2007" to be an educational and research beacon that contributes to graduating generations with qualified competencies and health professionals capable of working in both public and private sectors to perform various tasks.
